Safe dental implantation planning with detailed diagnostics

Preliminary tests are required

In addition to careful planning, the placement of a dental implant requires thorough preliminary examinations and sometimes preliminary interventions. Your patient chooses how long the time is between the first examination and the placement of the final denture. It may happen that a loose tooth needs to be removed and it is necessary to wait for healing, or it becomes necessary to lift the facial cavity, or the X-ray examination may find signs of inflammatory processes. These are phenomena in the oral cavity that it is irresponsible not to remedy before inserting the implant.

In order to rule out as many potential problems as possible, or to find existing ones and fix them, the following tests will definitely be necessary:

  1. Panoramic X-ray for preliminary orientation and approximate preliminary planning of surgery. In the recording, your doctor can find any inflammation around the root and also get a useful picture of the condition of your teeth in the jawbone: is it necessary to carry out any preliminary treatment on them (for example root canal treatmentor whether one of the teeth needs to be removed.
  2. For the 3D Cone Beam CT recording, in which the doctor performing the operation can see all planes clearly, he can also perform important measurements: he can determine the bone thickness (the distance between the sinus and the bone surface, he can get an idea of the exact position of the important anatomical structures (facial nerves), that is, everything that you can read information from the recording, which is essential for precise and safe surgery.

In our dental office, In VIP Dental CBCT and X-ray Centers we can view the recordings made, so please have your 3D Cone Beam CTs made here.

When should we choose dental implants?

Today, the most modern procedure for the aesthetic and permanent replacement of missing teeth is tooth implantation. Among dental technologies, dental implant technologies are developing most dynamically today. There is almost no case or patient in whom dental implants cannot be implanted. These are made of a material - mostly titanium, which our body does not consider as a foreign body, so they are not expelled, or only a small percentage. In addition, the implants are made in such a way that fine microdimples are formed on their surface, into which the organic and inorganic material of the bone can "grow", thus ensuring a permanent and stable fixation of the implant in the jawbone.

The insertion of the implants is careful preliminary investigations and thorough design work precedes, their insertion cannot therefore be solved in a single session and the whole process from start to finish usually takes longer than traditional dentures. The pre-operative examinations decide how many times the doctor and the patient will meet before the placement, because it may be necessary to remove bad or loose teeth, bone replacement in the place of old missing teeth, sinus lift, and of course also the healing phases following various surgical interventions.

The answer to the above question is that “When should we choose dental implants?”, knowing what was described above, is very simple: dental implants are recommended in the event that you are missing teeth for some reason and want a permanent, stable tooth replacement.

However, it is important to know that the minimum size of implants is limited, so if the gap between two teeth does not reach the minimum size of the implant (at least 4 mm), then implantation surgery cannot be performed. In such cases, missing teeth can be corrected with orthodontics or different types of dentures. In addition, additional risk factors affecting the success of implantation surgery:

  • Smoking
  • More severe diabetes
  • Circulation disorders
  • A tendency to edema
  • Osteoporotic diseases
  • Autoimmune diseases

Knowing the above, our doctors will inform you as to whether the implantation surgery can be performed safely in your case, while observing the maximum professional standards. If surgery is not recommended due to your health, our doctors asthetic dentures are recommended for you.

Planning the surgery

The implantation surgery can be planned when your doctor has completed with preliminary investigations and has all the data on the basis of which you can implant the artificial root in an accurate and safe manner. In the table below, we summarize what preliminary interventions may be necessary and how much time should elapse between interventions to make planning easier for you:

Steps of implantation Treatments How long does it take? When is the next treatment?
 0 Consultation, preparatory interventions
(no for preparatory interventions
necessary in any case)
  • Preliminary orientation based on a panoramic X-ray
  • Preparation of 3D Cone Beam CT
  • If necessary, the removal of unsalvageable teeth
  • Facial cavity lifting or bone replacement procedures
The necessary interventions take 1-5 working days
  • immediately after a simple tooth extraction
  • 4-6 weeks after surgical tooth extraction
  • in the case of bone replacement, 7-8 months
  • minimum 8 months after sinus lift surgery
 1 Implant screw insertion
  • Implant screw insertion
Depending on the number of implants, 1-5 working days
  • 4-6 months, during which time the jawbone grows stably around the implant
2 Excavation of the implant and insertion of the gingival shaping screw
  • releasing the implant protected by the gums and inserting the gingival shaping screw
1 working day
  • In 2-3 weeks
 3 Preparation of permanent dentures
  • After removing the gingival shaping screw, inserting the superstructure screw
  • Making a dental impression
  • fixation of permanent dentures
5-10 working days depending on the amount of dentures
  • further treatments are needed every 3-6 months, your doctor determines the frequency of the necessary control examinations

The above table is of a summary nature and the necessary interventions and the length of time between the two interventions may vary from individual to individual. Knowing your condition, your doctor will provide you with personalized information about the necessary interventions and the expected length of time until the final tooth replacement.
