Metal-ceramic crowns

Metal-ceramic crowns

A permanent solution for replacing chewing teeth

The metal-ceramic crown is a long-used, reliable type of crown. The frame of the metal-ceramic crown is made of metal, and the porcelain covering is applied layer by layer, which ensures the natural appearance of the crown.Since the metal framework is not transparent at all, regardless of the quality of the porcelain covering, the metal-ceramic crown on the front teeth can never provide a completely realistic appearance.

Therefore, metal-ceramic crowns are mostly recommended for replacing chewing teeth, as individual crowns for individual teeth, but we can replace several missing teeth with it, in which case a metal-ceramic bridge consisting of several members is made. It is an excellent choice for replacing molars in all cases where there is no metal allergy. Of course, it can also be used in the area of the front teeth, although it is a less budget-friendly solution than the one that ensures a perfect aesthetic appearance full ceramic crowns, or Zirconium oxid crowns

According to the modern dental approach and the objective of our office, the dental restoration must also take care of the aesthetics and health of the gums, so in our office, when preparing metal-ceramic crowns, if the preparation of the teeth allows, we recommend metal-ceramic dental restorations made with shoulder preparation.

In this case, the preparation of the tooth is done by creating a small shoulder in the part of the teeth very close to the gum - unlike previous preparation methods, not under the gum. This shoulder will later provide the actual support for the crown. The dental technician covers the part of the metal frame of the artificial tooth near the shoulder of the prepared tooth with a special, low-shrink porcelain layer, which prevents the metal frame from showing through at the neck of the tooth later on. The integrity, healthy color and firmness of the gingival surface in contact with the metal-ceramic crown can only be preserved in the case of dental restorations made with shoulder preparation.
